Delays, school and work.

Friday, August 31st, 2007

After all that, I’m not moving out this weekend. Our buyers are messing around a bit so things aren’t going as smoothly as we’d all hoped and expected; we may even lose our new house and everything we’ve put into that if our buyers drop out.

On a lighter note, school is actually pretty good. Business, Art and Graphic Design lessons are off to a good start. General studies starts after the weekend and the compulsory First Aid class they’ve so kindly put me on without consultation starts in a few weeks. I don’t mind learning first aid, heck, it’s a good idea, but first thing Monday morning it’s going to be an annoyance, especially considering I only have two other lessons that day, right at the end of the day as well, so I have to be in school all day >:( haha.

I was thinking about possibly writing a couple of web design articles for here, couple of tutorials, tips, techniques that kind of thing, if people are going to be interested in them? Let me know anyway and if enough people want me to I will do.

The Santy DJ work should be finished this weekend, and once it’s online I’ll post and stick it on here. The work for Rustyarcade is complete (almost) and will hopefully be launched tomorrow, so I’ll let you know when it’s launched and go check it out!

So we’re moving house soon, twice.

We found a house we like, and a buyer for ours, the only problem now is our house isn’t finished being built and our buyers are moving in here next week. So we’re moving house soon, twice. I’m not sure if I’ll have the internet for a month or two, but I’ll be able to update my website (and hopefully check my e-mails) from school.

It’s my birthday soon as well, the day after we move out for the first time. Eek!

Beatbox fame game and stupid domain names

Beatbox fame game

I’ve been quite busy these last few days with work, exam results and going out with friends - but there’s always time for a good laugh at some good ol’ internet creativity. I know it’s a little old now, but every time I watch the Beatbox fame game it makes me laugh, well worth a watch.

Stupid domain names

After visiting a couple of websites I stumbled across a list of incredibly ill thought out domain names, I thought I’d share my favourites with you.

A site called “Who Represents” where you can find the name of the agent that represents a celebrity.

Looking for a pen? Look no further than Pen Island at

Sixthform starts soon

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

I got my results back today, I did pretty well. I got everything I needed to get into sixthform, so the next few years of my life are sorted education wise. Sixthform starts soon, I’m kinda looking forward to it, but I hope I’m in a form with some of my friends. It should be a good couple of years ahead.

Everyone else with exams do well?

Fighting The System

Monday, August 20th, 2007

I was asked by Danny to create a logo for his upcoming website Fighting The System. Danny wanted something bold incorporating a fist and so this vector logo was created.

The final logo includes Fighting The System.com text and a blur on the fist - but you’ll have to wait until his site is launched to see the final design.

I’m sure you’ll do well.

August is going fast. It’s the 19th already, and in a couple of days I’ll be getting my GCSE results. I’m expecting the worst to be honest, everyone says “I’m sure you’ll do well”, but that’s the problem - I don’t think I have done well. I’m not worried, I guess, because at the end of the day I can already do both the things I’m thinking of as jobs, and people I have been talking to in both industries have hardly any formal qualifications and are heading towards the top of their fields and earning enough on the side - I’d just like to get into sixthform and get something solid under my belt.

I’m probably going to email a couple of theatres and concert halls and see if I can get a bit of lighting work with them - paid or volunteer I don’t really mind at the stage, it’s the experience I’m after.

Anyway, I finished the work for Rustyarcade, half way through the Santy DJ website and got a call from a friend yesterday who is after a website, so the work is still going strong at the moment which is good. It’s nice to have some cash in my pocket as summer wraps up for another year… and it’s my birthday soon :D!

Sorry, that’s dual banking - you’re not allowed to do that.

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

So I went to HSBC today to set up a new bank account, as the account I currently have won’t sync with Paypal so I can’t get money to and from easily. All I wanted to do was set up a new account with them, but they wouldn’t let me.

“You already have an account with Nationwide?” the woman said after asking me about my bank statement I’d taken as proof of address. So? I want 2 accounts. As far as I’m concerned it’s none of her business - and so what if I do? I’m not ready to close me other account yet. Plus it’d be easier for me to keep my Nationwide account open as my Chefs Assistant job pays into there, and so will my EMA in a couple of weeks time - it makes sense for me to leave it open while I get everything sorted out with the new HSBC account I’m after, but no.

“Sorry, that’s dual banking - you’re not allowed to do that.” she explains. “Only in exceptional circumstances do we allow dual banking.” This is all turning out to be far more hassle than it’s worth. “I can still set it up for you, but you won’t be able to use it until you show us a proof of closure letter from Nationwide to show us you have closed your account with them.” I’m surprised any bank wouldn’t bit your arm off when you’re trying to open an account with them - after all you’re going to be giving them money, frequently.

This would be like walking into Tescos and the woman at the till saying “Excuse me, do you shop at Asda?” “Yeah.” “Well, I’m sorry, you’re not allowed to buy anything from here unless you stop shopping at Asda.”

Work for Rustyarcade & Santy DJ Service

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

I’ve got some work off Matt from Rustyarcade transforming their current layout from tables to CSS. His website is huge, soon to be drawing in 2,000,000 unique visitors a month so it’s a great privilege to be able to work on it. I made some great progress on it today and completed most of the index page divs and CSS.

James from Santy DJ Service has also asked me to produce them a website advertising and showcasing Santy, that should be a lot of fun as well. His design is currently on paper in my notebook, but I’ve got some cool ideas and features for it, so we’ll see how integrating these goes.

It’s a busy couple of weeks ahead.
